When I was in the early stages of my photography adventure the biggest challenge for me was understanding the light. I was so fixated on getting a sharp photo I often didn’t notice how flat my light was.
It always made me think about learning to drive as a 15 year old.. no problem with gear changes but couldn’t steer for toffee! (Sorry Dad!).
Come to think of it, I’ve never really done things according to the « norm » 🤔
Anyway, whether food styling or food photography (or both) is your thing you’ll be sure to see the light at one of my upcoming workshops designed to help improve your food and product images.

It was a great pleasure to work with graphic designer @saramorrisondesign on one of her final year projects at @northmetrotafe late last year.
Sara wanted to design a cookbook and needed images and recipes which is where I came in.
Her theme is Pot Luck: “dishes you would want to make for a bring-a-dish” party, with a handy category system for easy, versatile, fancy etc

Had coffee at @little_olive_leaf_cafe yesterday and came home with a couple of bunches of grapes. The vines cover the whole backyard giving beautiful filtered light and relief from the sun and apparently have been dripping with grapes for a while now. I just had to pick some of the shrivelled up ones too - I think they’re beautiful 😊

I only added the tomatoes and basil so it would look like I wasn’t just hoovering a whole ficelle.

Baguettes are best on the day they’re baked in my view, but if you managed to show some restraint and not hoover the whole thing here’s a super easy way to get the most out of the leftover stick.
Cut into thin slices (I’m Cordon Bleu trained so the diagonal cut is ingrained!), brush lightly on both sides with good quality extra virgin olive oil (looking at you @greatsoutherngroves) and toast in your sandwich press until golden.
Season with a pinch of sea salt, et voilà - crunchy crostini ready to roll.
